AtHome Medical is committed to patent privacy and
takes the privacy of our patients seriously. AtHome Medical is providing this
notice in accordance with applicable state and federal law to explain the steps
taken in response to this incident.
What Happened?
On July 18, 2026, AtHome Medical became aware that
patient email addresses were inadvertently placed in the “To” field of an
email, instead of the “BCC” or blind carbon copy field, making the names and
email addresses of the recipients visible to other recipients. Upon discovery,
AtHome Medical immediately initiated an investigation to determine the nature
and scope of the incident.
The investigation determined that certain information
contained in these emails was visible to other recipients of the same
communications. As a result, an individual’s information may have been included
in one or more of the email communications.
What Information Was Involved?
The information involved may have included an email
address and a reference to being supplied certain medical equipment related to
past medical care. Financial information, dates of birth, physical addresses,
and Social Security numbers were not involved. At this time, we have no
evidence that the information has been misused.
What We Are Doing and What Individuals Can
Do
AtHome Medical takes this incident very seriously and
sincerely regrets any concern it may cause. Upon learning of the incident,
AtHome Medical took immediate action to investigate the matter, contain it, and
reduce the likelihood of a similar occurrence in the future. These actions
included conducting a comprehensive investigation, providing additional
workforce education and training where appropriate, and reviewing policies and
procedures related to the protection of protected health information.
This did not affect all AtHome Medical patients but
only certain patients who were CPAP users. Patients who received an email(s)
are asked to delete it if they have not already done so. Based on the limited
nature of the information involved, no further action is required at this time.
